About the Role

As a part of our Year in Industry Program you will have the opportunity to move between selected departments experiencing exposure to all areas of the business. This is a one year training programme designed to provide broad on the job training starting in summer 2023.   

One-year rotation programme covering three mutually agreed modules from:

UAS Operations

  • Undertake training use of company systems to become a competent UAS operator
  • Safe conduct of operations & related technical tasks involved in daily UAS operations
  • Routine maintenance and repair of aircraft including avionics and electronic installations
  • Deployed operations
  • Internet research including checking meteorological reports

Software Engineering

  • Working on R&D projects and test scripts using modern languages
  • Desktop application & Windows Forms GUI design
  • Programming desktop apps to interact with a microcontroller-based system
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and evidence to support product development, qualification and test

Manufacturing Technology

  • Contributing to the design of UAS platforms
  • Supporting manufacture of UAS airframes (e.g. creating moulds, 3D printing, composites lay-up)
  • Operating a range of CNC machines
  • Safe operation of workshop tools and equipment

System Engineering

  • Integration of UAS systems (e.g. incorporation of powertrain, actuators, control systems, payloads)
  • Contributing to the design and development of avionics systems for unmanned air systems, including, navigation, communication, aircraft management and command and control (C2) systems.
  • Maintain test facilities

Project Management

  • Develop and manage allocated projects via project plans
  • Management of project risks and opportunities
  • Reporting project progress as required advising immediately if control tolerance levels are exceeded
  • Ensure projects remain within allocated budget

Bid/ Proposal Support

  • Support preparation of bids/proposals
  • Research Target companies (potential customers, partners and competitors)
  • Research and source quotes from suppliers (e.g. for equipment)

About You

You will be expecting to obtain an upper second-class (2:1) or above BSc or Masters honours degree in a Science or Engineering subject. A UK driving licence is desirable due to our office location and you will have a passion for aerospace.
