China-based provider of 3D sensing solutions LSLiDAR has launched its new LS series 1550nm fiber laser automotive-grade lidar at the China International Automotive Industry Annual Conference.
According to the company, the LS series is designed with an in-house-developed fiber laser to meet long-range and high-resolution sensing requirements of highway ADAS L3+ applications.
Compared to a conventional 905nm laser, the 1550nm platform is stated to be more than 10,000 times safer for the human eye, allowing for increased peak pulse power reaching longer detection distances while maintaining eye safety. The result is faster object detection at longer ranges and greater speeds.
The company notes that the LS series is available in resolutions of 128-line, 256-line and 512-line, generating 1.6 million pts/sec, 3.2 million pts/sec, and 6.4 million pts/sec respectively. Furthermore, they have a FOV of 120°(V) x 25°(H). The 128-line version has a standard resolution of 0.09°(H) x 0.2°(V).
With the Region of Interest (ROI) feature enabled, equivalent to 512 lines, the angular resolution can reach as little as 0.05°.
The 256-line variant has a standard resolution of 0.09°(H) x 0.1°(V), which can be bumped up to the equivalent of 800 lines with ROI, while the angular resolution can reach as little as 0.03°.
The LS series’s sensors overall dimensions are 225 x 120 x 45mm, which are stated to be 20% smaller than comparable products on the market today and the sensors are also subject to ASIL D Certification.
